Arcade videogame maker Raw Thrills is releasing a powerboat racing simulator that delivers rich graphics on a 42” high-definition LCD. Aptly named H2Overdrive, the new viddie hearkens back to Hydro Thunder by delivering high-octane water action with just a steering wheel and throttle.
H2Overdrive offers a selection of nine high-tech powerboats that cruise seven visually detailed waterways from around the world. As players motor through the game, myriad jumps, deep drops and secret paths create excitement, different booster levels enhance boat performance and dazzling wipeouts make big splashes.
Equipped with force-feedback steering and advanced throttle control, the new boat racer provides realistic tactile feedback that helps simulate the effects of water physics. A subwoofer located in the seat further immerses the player into the high-speed nautical experience.
There are 40 levels in the game, and players earn new capabilities at each. Superboost kicks in at level 2, for instance, and the ability to perform midair stunts is earned at a later stage.
Raw Thrills’ H2Overdrive is packaged in a newly designed cabinet, giving it a much different look than Hydro Thunder. A Dell computer powers the game and up to eight cabinets can be linked. Players can create and save their profiles to resume play at a later time.
The new videogame was designed by Specular Interactive Inc., which is led by Steven Ranck, who developed the original Hydro Thunder, among other well-known titles from Midway Games. He founded Specular, located in Irvine, CA, in 2007 after selling his Swingin’ Ape Studios.
